I've had a bloggy award bestowed upon me by the lovely and irreverently funny author of Speaking From The Crib! Thank ya, babe!

Student of the Month

Yep, that's our Bubs recieving an award from our school's principal for being the Student of the Month for his class. Every month, the chosen students and their families are invited to a breakfast to celebrate their achievement. Can you feel how delighted his dad and I are from where you are?

Every teacher wrote a short notation on each award about why the student was chosen. The Bub's teacher said that he has a very kind and generous heart, is positive, and is always willing to help someone else in need. It did my mommy heart good to hear those things and was wonderful for the Bubs to see that good character is something worth displaying.

His dad and I have always believed that he should be prepared academically and taught/shown good character traits. In today's world, we feel that both are equally important for his success. Both of those elements are heavily pushed at his school and with good reason. Schools are not just teaching the three r's anymore, they are being challenged (hopefully with parental support) to prepare future productive citizens who know what good character traits and attitudes are and how to put them to use on a daily basis.

We were having a few goofy moments with the camera before the breakfast started...as if you couldn't tell!

In other fun news.....the In Laws have left. My week of gratuitous insults and odd behavior is over. I feel like I've been run over by a semi...and then backed over just to make sure I'm good and flattened. Even my parents were witness to some of this behavior and were horrified. My husband was embarrassed. Poor guy. I continually told him that their actions were their own and did not reflect poorly on him. I mean, how could I hate on the man when it wasn't his fault? As much as I tried to reassure him, I still think he was disappointed at their actions. I was, too.

And That~

I had a nice conversation tonight with my Nana about the history of our family and the local area we live in. Sometimes having a conversation of any length with Nana can be hit or miss, but she was willing to settle in for a good chat with me. I enjoy hearing about our family's background (on both sides) and how it ties in to our area. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures and other bits of paper that she's (and others in the family) have saved over the years....like a hospital bill for a two day stay that amounted to $65 in the 1930's.

Even when I was little I enjoyed looking through old photo albums that my parents had, the endless antique treasures scattered around Nana and Granddaddy's house, and looking at poems and very old family photos with Grandma while she told me stories about the people in them. Those are among my most fond memories of growing up. For Christmas, I asked Nana and Granddaddy to jot down what they could remember of their family tree. I'm hoping they remember to do that......Nana also said that she'd make copies of some old photos for me. As hokey as it sounds, I'm excited!

Wow. I got an award! It was given to me by my cousin from Boondock Ramblings. I've never been a recipient of one of these before, but I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to share the love...

Boondock Ramblings, Journeying With St. Ignatius and Northern Outpost were all given this award already, but I must say that they remain my favorites. They all have such different points of view and alternately cause me to laugh, cry and reflect. They are also family and talented to boot!

Fried Okra - I know I'm new to your blog, but you never fail to make me laugh with your oh-so-southern outlook and hilarious dialogue! I have found a fellow blogger who understands what it is to be a southern gal...no matter where you may be. (I love that you know how to use words like "forty-leven"!)

Striving for Divine Love - The first thing I noticed about your blog was the plan of Salvation at the top of your page. The only thing I can say about that is...You Go Girl! I've enjoyed cheering you on as you tackle new experiences in your life. You're an inspiration! (Yes, even when your spell check is on the fritz!)

Celtic Knots - A creative, talented American mom to two adorable lasses who lives in Ireland. I connected to you not only through your writing and love of creativity, but because we are going through something similar...our mothers are battling breast cancer. I'm cheering you and your Mom on, Shug!!

Gathering Grace - I came across your blog quite by accident the other day, but have already enjoyed your mix of whimsy, practicality and faith. I'm not even sure if I've commented on your blog, yet...Oops! If I've committed a blogging faux pas, please forgive me!

American Quilter in Ireland - The title says it all...or does it? You not only are a quilting fanatic, but you have a family, run a B&B, help with the farm...and the list probably goes on! I've enjoyed our comments back and forth to one another and look forward to more.

Verry Sherry - Somewhere between the posts about your precious Cutiepie and Babydoll's antics, to your recent posts about the Great Job search of '08, which was laugh out loud funny at times, you've charmed me!

Flower Fairies and Fairy Cakes - When I saw the title of your blog, I just had to see it! Your "dispatches from the front line in the Button household" are very funny and I constantly log on to find out what happens in the next episode of "Betty"!
