Time flies and boys grow...

So sorry for my bloggy absence...it's been an interesting time at my house, lately. The Hubs is still recovering from his shoulder surgery. He has okay days....and then he has pretty rough days. Today was one of them. He's resting now and I'm prayerful that his season of painful days will be coming to an end soon.

When my Dad reminded the Bubs earlier that tomorrow would be his last vacation day before the school year started, he was both excited and shocked. I think it snuck up on him....I know the feeling!

E-man gets taller everyday. He's able to get his hands on things that I'd previously thought were out of his reach. We all have to take extra care not to leave our drinks around or any of the t.v. remotes as he has a distinct fondness for snatching both!

My how time flies...and how little boys grow!

"I wanna paint like you, Mommy!"

That's what the Bubs told me when we were chatting in my studio. He'd come in a few moments before and leaned on the back of my chair to peek over my shoulder at what I was painting. It was one of those slow days around the house. He had the day off from school and the Hubs had the day off from work. Some days we like to just chill out and enjoy being home ...no major cleaning projects or grocery shopping treks.

For a child who's used to a more structured day, chillin' out at home can be a relief....for a little while and then they start expecting you to come up with some activity for them to do! I'm pretty sure that's how the Bubs was feeling when he said that he wanted to paint like I was. He'd mentioned his interest in painting a couple times before and Poppi went out and got him a few canvasses to have fun with.

So he painted. It was fun to watch him- no fear, no hesitating or second guessing. We talked about how to use a paint brush and paint, what colors he wanted to use...and enjoyed being together. I know having that time with him is a memory I'll treasure. I hope he'll come to treasure it, too.

This and that...

I finally got my new power cord for my laptop yesterday. *doing my happy dance* Of course, the first thing I do is hop on Blogger! The old one had frayed to the point of being useless a few days ago. I LOOOVE my Dell laptop, but putting the power cord on the side of the unit instead of the back is my only pet peeve with the design.

I don't have a cohesive post in mind, just a bit of this and that floating around in my noggin...keep the jokes down to a minimum, y'all!

Little E-man is getting longer and more mobile everyday. He now has 6 teeth at various stages of coming in. He's had his cranky moments (um, hours) lately, but we figure if we had that many teeth coming in at one time, we'd be cranky too. In between his more uncomfortable moments, I've been experimenting with my camera and light in preparations for my little photo session with the boys. I'm hoping to get some fun and nice portraits of the boys. Here's a sample of some of my "playing" as I call it~

The work on the house continues in all its dusty, messy glory. We go to purchase countertops and appliances this weekend...may the budget juggling commence! Fortunately, we talked to a very lovely sales associate last weekend who filled us in on all the upcoming sales/discounts. I coulda kissed her feet. But I didn't. Cause that woulda been weird.

The Bubs got his first report card of the year yesterday. He's doing great! I was concerned because he's already missed more time out of school than I would like, but he seems to be doing fine despite his sick days.

Well, that's all for now. I'm off to catch up on what's been goin' on in your worlds!

Where'd the week go?

Whoa, nelly. What a week!

The Bubs started first grade. We're getting back in the groove with some old routines and breakin' in some new ones. He's slid back into the school shindig pretty well so far and I'm relieved.

Pay no attention to the goofy expression on his face over there. *sigh* I was trying to snap a pic before we headed out the door and this is what he gave me. My silly boy.

E-man has cut his first tooth and is well on his way to a second. He's been shoving everything he can get his little hands on into his mouth to gnaw on.

Hubs even let him chew on one of his old Playstation controllers. That's love right there people. The man tore apart a controller for the E-man's teething mania.

As for our weekend, let's hope that Danny (tropical storm) doesn't wreck our time off...or anything else for that matter!

Starting school and tissues

I've taken the Bubs to his first day of 1st grade. *sigh*

I had visions of a complicated morning last night while I was thinking of everything that our morning routine would include. My mental projections were for naught. We got out of the house without a hitch and in a good mood.

What I wasn't counting on was my heart stuttering as I watched the Bubs kiss his little brother and tell him over and over, "I love you so much. I'm gonna miss you but I'll see you later."

Those were the same words I told him on his first day of Kindergarten.

Where did I put that box of tissues?!

"Why couldn't they have come up with this sooner?"

We, in our humble home, have discovered a delightful new (to us) baby item. It's one of those things that I wish we had been able to get our exhausted parental hands on when the Bubs was a baby.

It's called a Bumbo Seat and the E-man loves it! We noticed that he loved to sit upright whenever he could, but we weren't always able to accomodate him...crying ensued. I happened to stumble across this infant seat in one of my online window shopping excursions and did some quick research to make sure it was worth the cashey-cash. Every review I read said to try it out in the store to make sure the legs fit.

Okay. Can do....and did. Everything was fine. We just have to make sure we don't put him in it too soon after he eats or else what went down would just come back up again. Ick.

The E-man LOVES his little blue chair and we love it right along with him! The Hubby and Bubs, true to form, got a little goofy with it. This time I have evidence!! See for yourself.

Getting it done...and discoveries~

What a day! If I see another grocery aisle it'll be too soon!

It was the typical pay day grocery shopping mania and I'm thrilled that the Hubs and I got it done...and that it's over with. With so many families suffering with job loss and tightening purse strings, I felt very lucky to be able to get everything that we needed with a few "how did that get in the cart?" extras. So that's one big item that we can check off the ever present to do list.

Mom's still in the hospital. I know she's tired of the whole ordeal and very ready to go home, but she still has more fluid to get rid of and, now, a possible infection to fight off. We'll find out more about the infection in the next couple days when the results of the blood culture come back. *sigh* I just wanna break her out of there! Just think, the Hubs can be the break out guy and I could be the getaway driver....

So the Bubs has become very interested in maps the last couple of months. Even when we're driving, he gives us directions and is usually right! My mother-in-law gave us a GPS system for the car and the Bubs is tickled pink every time we use it. Between the GPS and the fact that maps are something they're studying in his class, he's becoming quite the enthusiast. It's fun to watch him discover new items of interest on the maps in his playroom and try to decipher the different map legends. Of course, the location of all the railroad tracks is a major item of interest for him and the first thing he looks for. I don't think watching him discover new things will ever get old for me! It's so much fun.

Head 'em up, move 'em out!

Alrighty....this'll be a quick post today. We're getting ready to take the Bubs to his pulminologist appointment that's at a facility a couple hours away. I'm not complaining about the drive, I'm just happy that the appointment was able to be bumped up from the date it originally was set for--the end of December. We all breathed a sigh of relief when the appointment lady kept calling me to bump the date up. The Bubs needs some intervention now, not a month from now!

So send a shout out to our Abba Daddy on the Bubs's behalf, pretty please and thank ya! We're hoping for a positive prognosis and information to help us prevent this sort of thing from coming back to haunt us. Have a great Monday!

***Update~ We're home now and everything went well. A chest x-ray, some breathing exercises, a thorough examination, and a couple scripts later we were on our way out and feelin' much more at ease. The Bubs doesn't have asthma or any lung damage. He does, however have what the doc thinks is a persistent infection. We hope to see some improvement over the next few weeks. Yay!
